Tulsa Police Department officials say a weekend drunk driving check point proves more proactive policing is needed.
The department teamed up with 7 other agencies and arrested 34 suspected drunk drivers.
Officers and deputies wrote 49 tickets for speeding, and 60 tickets for failure to wear a seatbelt.

Some Tulsans say that along with extra patrols, their sense of security is coming back.
"I know that they have had a lot of problems on Brookside with that, so I am glad that they are finally taking charge and actually getting out to take care of people," said Katrina Bailey

Another 20 officers are expected to be sworn in next week, but police say the department won't be up to full staff for a while.
"We had a big issue with people retiring in May and we are not going to see those numbers either for another 6 months to a year even at that because of having to regroup and do another academy class," said Tulsa Police Officer Craig Murray.
