TULSA - Tulsa police are investigating a homicide in north Tulsa after a man was found dead outside a home.
Around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday emergency responders were called to the scene near Apache and North Yale about a "man down." Upon arrival they found the victim with a gunshot wound lying next to an overturned trash can.
Authorities have identified the man as Wayne Bell, a 48-year-old employee of the Tulsa County Juvenile Detention Center.
Neighbors tell 2NEWS they heard what sounded like firecrackers around 11 p.m.
Police are interviewing witnesses and reviewing overnight call logs to determine if anything suspicious was reported in the area.
Authorities say there was a call around 5:30 a.m. about a man down near Apache and Urbana but police found no body. It wasn't until another call about two hours later that a more specific location was provided.
Police don't believe the shooting was gang-related but instead believe the suspect may have had a vendetta.
Bell's wife, Oveta Moore, tells 2NEWS her husband did not have any enemies. "I really can't see anything that he would've done to cause something like this," she said.
Tulsa Police Sgt. Dave Walker says there have been two previous incidents at the home. In February, someone fired a gun at Bell's home. Early Monday morning, officers responded to another case of shots hitting the home. No one was injured in the previous cases.
Investigators are now working backward to determine the victim's activities over the 12 to 14 hours prior to his death.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (918) 596-COPS, text TIP918 to CRIMES or email email@example.com .
