TULSA - Tulsa police have identified the officer involved in a weekend shooting at a south Tulsa apartment complex that left one person dead.

Police say Officer Daniel Madewell is on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

On Saturday, Madewell and other officers were called to Coppermill Apartments near 71st and Sheridan for a possible suicidal person.

Police at the scene told 2NEWS the man chased his roommate from their apartment with a knife, then refused to leave the apartment.

After several hours, the man walked onto his balcony, police say, and pointed a gun at officers. Madewell fired, killing the man.

Investigators later discovered the man was armed with a BB gun.

Madewell was hired by the Tulsa Police Department in August 2007.

The deceased's name is being withheld pending family notification.
