TULSA - A Tulsa man is behind bars for allegedly possessing and distributing child pornography.
According to the arrest report, 48-year-old Shawn Neihart was taken into custody Monday around 10:30 a.m. after he turned himself in to the Tulsa County Jail.
Neihart was booked on a number of charges filed Oct. 11, according to district court records.
Among the charges Neihart faces are aggravated possession of child pornography, possession of child pornography, distribution of child pornography and possession of obscene material.
According to the affidavit, Neihart was under investigation for sharing child pornography to an undercover agent with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. Neihart was allegedly using a peer-to-peer sharing program called Ares.
The computer from which the images originated was tracked to Neihart's home in Tulsa.
The case was then turned over to the Tulsa Police Department's Cyber Crimes Unit, part of the federally funded Internet Crimes Against Children task force managed by the OSBI.
A search warrant for Neihart's home yielded the seizure of a computer and an external hard drive.
According to the affidavit, Neihart admitted July 31 in an audio recording he had been downloading child pornography for three to four years and the hard drive had "a bunch of bad stuff on it." He also said he'd used Ares to download the content.
A forensic examination of the computer and hard drive yielded 267 image files and 67 video files identified as child pornography as well as images and videos of bestiality.
Neihart is due in court Oct. 24. Meanwhile, he's being held in the Tulsa County Jail on $60,000.
