TULSA - Tulsa area residents can choose from three different festivals this weekend by celebrating Cinco de Mayo, Germanfest or Bixby Barbeque and Blues.
The Greater Tulsa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is celebrating Cinco de Mayo at the Imperio Event Center.
Organizers expect more than 15 thousand festival participants during the 3 day event which celebrates Hispanic cultures through art, music, food and entertainment by local artist and regional acts.
The center is located at 14009 East 21st Street in Tulsa. The festival runs from 1 p.m to 10:30 Saturday and 12 p.m to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
Cinco de Mayo festivities will also be held in the downtown Deco District and Blue Dome District and include live music, luchador wrestling and margaritas.
The Tulsa German American Society holds its annual Germanfest at the GAST building at 15th Street and Terrace Drive.
Germanfest features entertainment by the GAST Saenger (choir), its folk dancers, and the GAST Blaskapelle (brass band) together with a polka band, lots of activities for the children and authentic German food and drink. Come sample the Bratwurst, polish or smoked, with Sauerkraut on a bun, Kartoffelpuffer, Schnitzel Sandwich or dinner and Jaegerschnitzel.
The festival is open from 10am to 9pm Friday and Saturday, and noon to 5pm on Sunday. Plenty of parking. The event is open to the public.
The 12th annual Bixby Barbecue and Blues festival at Washington Irving Park features the best barbeque and music all rolled into one.
The public can sample barbeque from the competing teams from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, while supplies last. The kits cost $10. while the supplies last. They can also vote for their favorite Team to win the People's Choice Award.
