TULSA - I'm used to folks asking if we can promote causes or events on TV. I usually include them in "Stuff 2 Do" on our Saturday morning 8-10am news.

Sometimes a request really touches you, especially when it's from a nervous sounding 6th grader!

I received a voice mail from Nate Underwood a few weeks ago. 12-year-old Nate asked me if I could ride my bicycle with him as he and his friends organized a benefit bicycle event called "Ride for a Life". Nate later said the toughest part was building up the courage to call me!

I can't ride in the event as I have to work on Saturday mornings, and I can't take any vacation days during severe weather season.

I wanted to help Nate promote the event, so I asked if he wanted to appear on the news. He did! Nate debuted in the 2NEWS interview chair near 9:20am on May 7, 2011, and he spoke better on live TV than some adults do!

Here's the information which he provided:

Nate's event is called, "Bike for a Life". The purpose of this ride is to raise money for pediatric cancer.

The 15 mile bicycle ride begins at Rosa Parks Elementary at 8am on May 14, 2011. (I've included a link-- click here for ride and registration info.) The ride ends with a light lunch at Eugene Field Elementary.

A donation of $25 is encouraged.

Nate is hoping his classmates and friends join him. All ages and fitness levels are welcome.

...

I really enjoyed having Nate on TV. If your child is starting an event that needs a little extra promotion then let me know. I might can help a little. ;) George
