TULSA -- Happy Social Media Day! June 30 marks the fourth annual Social Media Day , or #SMDay.
The national holiday was launched by Mashable.com , an online resource for social media and digital innovation.
The annual event was created to foster meetups across the globe “to recognize the digital revolution happening right before our eyes,” according to Mashable.com
The website also says Tulsa was the 14th city in the world to recognize the day in 2012. Mayor Dewey Bartlett proclaimed June 30, 2012 as Social Media Day in Tulsa, and Social Media Tulsa (socialmediatulsa.org) observed the first Social Media Day at Andolini’s Pizzeria.
This year, Mayor Bartlett has once again proclaimed June 30 as Social Media Day. Social Media Tulsa 2013 meetup will begin at Guthrie Green Sunday until 2 p.m.
#SMDay in Tulsa will close at Smoke. on Cherry St. from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. for a live performance with Cynthia Simmons. There is no cover charge.
