STILLWATER, Okla. - Rain turned to snow just before 6 p.m. across central Payne County before moving east into Green Country.
The snow quickly accumulated on grassy areas and across roadways around Stillwater, making for blizzard-like conditions.
Hours before the snow fell, residents rushed to hardware stores like Lowe's to stock up on ice melt, snow brushes and shovels.
One of the fastest selling items were plastic sleds.
"We're hoping to get some snow and our daughter can go down the hill," one father said.
Stillwater's street department said all three of its sand and salt trucks were loaded and on standby right before the snow started falling.
The threat of a severe snow storm also forced OSU to close campus and cancel all classes at 12:30 p.m.
