Sand Springs 'Festival of Lights' Parade set for Friday

SAND SPRINGS, Okla. - Tens of thousands of spectators are expected Friday evening for Sand Springs' annual Festival of Lights Christmas Parade through downtown, according to officials.

The festive procession of lighted floats has 126 entrants, making this year's parade the town's largest Christmas parade yet, parade coordinator Debbie Nobles told 2NEWS.

Set to begin at 7 p.m., the parade will follow its traditional route, beginning at 2nd Street and Main Street and traveling north on Adams Road, west on Second Street, north on Jefferson Avenue, west on Broadway to Page Triangle, then south on Main Street to First Street.

Featured in the more than a mile long procession will be a restored 1937 Ford Oklahoma Highway Patrol car as well as a refurbished antique 1943 tractor.

In keeping with this year's parade theme, “The Spirit of Christmas Future,” in the line-up will be 2NEWS Chief Meteorologist Dan Threlkeld, as well as a bus holding 10 babies born in 2012.

Hot chocolate and other refreshments will be served at various locations along the parade route.

Following the event, folks will be able to take their young ones to the park at the corner of McKinley and Broadway where Santa will be available for pictures.
