SAND SPRINGS, Okla. - A 19-year-old Payless Shoe Source employee was arrested Thursday in Sand Springs after admitting to stealing from the business, according to Sand Springs police.
Authorities said Amanda Watkins admitted to pocketing more than $1,000 through refund transactions when a company loss prevention manager realized a number of discrepancies dating back to October 9.
According to her booking report, Watkins used fraudulent refund slips 13 times to obtain the cash.
Watkins told investigators she had taken the money to bond her mother out of jail in time for Christmas.
Watkins faces a charge of embezzlement by an employee. She is due to appear in court Oct. 26. Her bond is set at $2,000.
