Sand Springs substitute teacher arrested amid rape allegations

SAND SPRINGS, Okla. - A Sand Springs substitute teacher was arrested Sunday night on accusations of raping a 14-year-old girl.
Steven Beard, 37, faces charges of second-degree rape, lewd molestation of a minor under the age of 16 and a lewd proposal to a minor.
The victim's mother contacted authorities after finding "inappropriate texts" that were "sexual in nature," according to Beard's booking report.
The report states at least some of the texting occurred July 29, but "other texts sexual in nature" were also discovered.
Authorities arrested Beard at 4916 S. Barr Dr., his Sand Springs residence.
After an interview, Beard's rape and lewd molestation charges were tacked on to an initial lewd proposal count.
Beard is being held on $100,000 bond. He is set to appear in court Aug. 20.
