TULSA - One person was killed early Thursday morning after an SUV crashed into a tree in midtown Tulsa.
The accident occurred near 36th Place on South Riverside Drive around 2:45 a.m.
Officer Leland Ashley says a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer left the roadway and struck a large tree, bursting into flames.
When emergency crews arrived the SUV was engulfed in flames and the driver was still inside, said Tulsa Police Capt. Mike Eckert.
Otis Bernard Doss Jr.,45, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say the rain made it difficult to determine what caused the accident.
"If the roadways were dry, skid marks and things ... but with wet conditions ... that's not here for us because of the weather," said Eckert.
Riverside was closed for hours between 31st and 41st while crews worked to clear the scene.
