TULSA - Homeowners in the Kendall Whittier neighborhood in Tulsa are enjoying recently completed renovations to the area.
Planning for the Kendall Whittier neighborhood master plan dates back to 1991. Today, it's equipped with a mix of new homes, offices and recreational areas.
The George Kaiser Family Foundation celebrated the completion of a new park and progress of a new apartment complex in the area Thursday.
"I can't even believe it's the same area...to see beautiful homes and a beautiful park. It's just so exciting," said Claire Theriot, West Park apartments resident.
The master plan for renovations to the West Park area included the development of 7.5 acres in the Kendall Whittier neighborhood and surrounding blocks.
The new neighborhood park includes new playgrounds, splash pads, new trails and pavilions. The nearly completed West Park apartments include 128 mixed income residential units, 20 student-housing units and 7,000 square feet of office and management space.
"I think this is going to be one of the great neighborhoods in Tulsa. it's really in the process of change," said Robert Howard, a homeowner in the Kendall Whittier neighborhood.
West Park and West Park apartments are part of a $37 million investment to the area. Funding for the project is provided George Kaiser Family Foundation, the University of Tulsa and the City of Tulsa.
