TULSA - Parents of Peary Elementary School students were alerted Thursday to an attempted abduction not far from the grounds the day prior.
A 3rd grade student claimed that when he was walking home from school he was approached by a man in a red, late 1990's SUV, possibly a Ford expedition. The student was only about two blocks from his home at the time.
The suspect is being identified as possibly a white male wearing a black hoodie. Fortunately, when the man motioned for the boy to come up to the SUV, the student decided to run home and find his mother.
Peary Elementary officials are hoping parents will use this as an opportunity to talk with their children about safety and "stranger danger." In this case, the student was also only a couple blocks from Peary and the school stresses the importance that children understand that even if they live nearby, they still need to be alert.
