OWASSO - Brothers Josh, Jesse and Daniel Wagner, of Owasso, know the Bible.
Daniel the youngest of the three just finished learning the entire book of Matthew. Name a Scripture reference, and he can recite it.
The Wagners grew up competing in Bible trivia competitions nationwide, so when the opportunity arose for the brothers to audition for The Game Show Network’s the American Bible Challenge, they willingly accepted.

“In a sense, it’s kind of like we have been preparing for this our whole lives,” Daniel said. “We love the Bible. We have read it as kids; we read it as a family; we’ve done Bible Quiz together. It’s almost like this show is tailor-made for us.”
An audition in Dallas and one week-long trip to Hollywood later, the Wagners had competed against 17 other teams on the show’s second season, hosted by Jeff Foxworthy, and won.
But the season hadn’t aired yet, so they had to keep it hush-hush for about five months. That was until last week, when America saw the three brothers win the final round.
“It was super fun competing on the American Bible challenge,” Jesse said. “It’s been a crazy journey the whole time.”
The show tested the trio’s skills on Bible trivia and memorization, and even had a few physical challenges for them to compete in.
“The show started out with some easier questions in the first opening rounds, and as the show went on, it got progressively harder and harder,” Jesse said.
In the end, they walked away with $140,000 – $40,000 they won in the first two rounds and $100,000 was the grand prize. But none of that money went in their pockets. The show awarded the money to the non-profit organization of their choice. The brothers chose Wagner Ministries International, which was started by their father about 14 years ago.
The proceeds will go to fund events like One Nation One Day in Honduras, where the ministry will bring medical supplies, food and clothing to the country this summer.
“This is just one of the many things we are doing with winning this money,” Jesse said.
With the focus on this summer’s trips through the ministry, there are no current plans to show off their skills at any competitions in the near future. However, it is safe to say the three would jump at the opportunity to do something like this again.
“We work so well together as a team,” Josh said. “We can accomplish so much. It was so much fun to be able to be on the show with my best friends – my brothers.”
