Hot temperatures are not a good mix with a growing trend in crime. Air conditioner theft is on the rise.
One of the latest thefts is in Owasso where 2 new air conditioner units were stolen from a rental home.
The thieves destroyed part of a gate to gain access to them.
Some insurance experts say most policies will cover air conditioner theft, and will not raise the rates unless the theft happens multiple times.
The landlords in Owasso were hit twice.
"We don't have multiple properties, we just have one, so at which point do you say it's not worth it," said Owasso resident Sharon Barnes.
Many theft victims are investing in fencing around their air conditioner units and surveillance cameras.
Local insurance representatives suggest investing in bolting the units to the concrete.
"It's not a full proof method but what it will do is it will slow them down instead of them being able to come in and make a couple of cuts and take the unit away," said David Vaughan, Owner of Vaughan Insurance Group.
Experts say it is best to always have a police report when filing an insurance claim.
