OKMULGEE COUNTY, Okla. - Deputies arrested a man after they say he had sex with a 12-year-old girl.
Larimie Dobson, 21, a National Guardsman, is in the Okmulgee County Jail on complaints of rape, sodomy and providing alcohol to a minor.
According to Okmulgee County Sheriff Eddy Rice, a deputy on patrol Saturday night encountered a vehicle parked on a dead end road in the area of Holly Road and Hope Hill Road.
After approaching the vehicle the deputy found a 12-year-old girl sitting in the front seat with Dobson, according to Rice.
The deputy's investigation revealed that Dobson and the girl had been drinking and had had sex, according to Rice.
The case has divided the Okmulgee community.
The girl's grandmother said she warned Dobson weeks earlier to stay away from the girl.
"I called him on the phone. I said 'Look, you're 21. She's only 12," said the girl's grandmother. "He needs to pay for what he's done."
Many of Dobson's friends also spoke with 2NEWS.
Trey Eslick described Dobson as a genuine friend.
"He's probably one of the most positive people I know," said Eslick. "I don't want to see him in jail or anywhere like that. Larimie is too nice of a guy."
Other Dobson supporters told 2NEWS the girl had been lying about her age for some time, claiming to be older than she was.
The girl's grandmother says her granddaughter isn't perfect, but maintains Dobson, as the adult, should have known better.
The grandmother added that her granddaughter has been the victim of online bullying over the last couple of days because of Dobson's arrest.
She says if things don't improve for the girl, she may be forced to move out of town.
