Oklahoma celebrates the life of Woody Guthrie

OKEMAH, Okla. - This is the year one of Oklahoma's most celebrated sons would have turned 100 years old.

Woody Guthrie's life is being celebrated at the Okemah Folk Festival this weekend.

Guthrie has been honored around the state over the past few months.

Several of the legendary songwriters' works were on display at the Gilcrease Museum and a concert sponsored by the Grammy Foundation honored him at Tulsa's historic Brady Theater.

As the people of Okemah gear up for this weekend's festival, the George Kaiser Family Foundation is working on a project of its own.

Guthrie's archives are being brought to Tulsa.  Housed at the old Matthew's Warehouse building in the Brady District, the collection will be a museum dedicated to Guthrie's life and the Dust Bowl.

"It makes Tulsa a destination for Woody Guthrie's scholars of which there are many all over the world," said Stanton Doyle, of the George Kaiser Family Foundation.

The museum will also be home to some of Guthrie's original writings.
