MUSKOGEE - Officials announced last week that Quik Trip will expand its market to Muskogee, building the first location in the city at the southwest corner of Shawnee and Highway 69.
Mike Thornbrugh, manager of public and governmental affairs, said Quik Trip has had its eye on the area for several years.
“We’ve been looking for a suitable site,” he said. “We were working on finding a location there for a few years and it never materialized. It’s an area we have looked at. This was just the right place at the right time. It’s a great opportunity for our customers and QT.”
The new location is expected bring about 15-18 jobs to Muskogee.
“What this means to us as a city is a significant boost to sales in general merchandise alone,” said Mayor Bob Coburn. “Gasoline and diesel will add to revenue. And it’s economic development. When people see dirt moving, it helps to see progress in the community. “
Coburn said bringing a Quik Trip to area was a joint effort between the Tulsa-based company and city staff and councilors, county commissioners and the City of Muskogee Foundation.
Quik Trip purchased the land for $826,596 from the City of Muskogee and is now under contract.
Officials say if all goes according to plans, the location will open in the fall or winter of 2014.
“This will be a lot of work, but I am committed to making this work, from my perspective,” Coburn said.
