MUSKOGEE, Okla. - Days after a dog was spotted carrying a human arm, Muskogee police say they are close to making an identification on a body that was found soon after.
Last Friday, a city worker reported seeing a dog carrying a human arm. Officers on the scene confirmed it was the decomposed arm from a human body, which was found by canine officers in nearby woods.
Police say the body was "heavily decomposed."
Officer Pedro Zardeneta, Muskogee Police Department spokesman, says investigators now have a good idea of the body's identity, though it is based on circumstantial identifiers.
The family has been notified but investigators are awaiting confirmation via dental records before the identity is released.
Zardeneta said no indications of the cause of death were found at the scene.
