The Mounds police chief and deputy police chief were both charged with embezzlement Tuesday.
Court records show Chief Chad Long and Deputy Chief Jerry Grafton admitted to each each taking $5,000 from a purse left at a store parking lot in 2010.
The purse, which was turned over to police reportedly contained an estimated $40,000, drugs and drug paraphernalia. In November of 2010, only $17,100 was transferred to the Creek County District Attorney's Office for safe keeping.
Both men have been suspended. No arrests have been made.
The department named Bob Randolph interim chief last week.
