VERDIGRIS, Okla. - Highway patrol troopers say a Miami woman was killed in a multi-car pileup on the Will Rogers Turnpike near Verdigris on Friday.
Troopers say a car hit the center barrier and came to a stop on the highway around 9:30 p.m. Six other vehicles and a semi truck tried to avoid the stopped car, but one vehicle hit the car.
A passenger from the stopped car, 25-year-old Joyce Kapcsos, was standing outside the vehicle and was hit and killed.
The semi overturned, and several other vehicles ended up in the ditch.
"We're uncertain at this time if the lights were on in the vehicle that struck the wall after it became disabled, or if the lights were disabled themselves so those are some things we will be looking at as we continue the investigation," Oklahoma Highway Patrol Captain Scott Horton said.
A six year old from one of the other vehicles was transported to the hospital. Troopers say he is in stable condition.
