TULSA - Comedian Martin Short was in town Friday for a performance at the SpiritBank Event Center, but he made a pit stop at the Channel 2 studios and took over our Midday newscast.
It was HILARIOUS!
Our poor Erin Christy didn't know what she was getting herself into with this interview.
The hilarity began when Erin inadvertantly introduced him as Martin Sheen! Yikes! Short took it in stride, even referring to himself as Martin Estevez, from there the laughs came flying at a mile a minute.
The two of them did the famous salute Short did with Steve Martin and Chevy Chase in the 1986 comedy The Three Amigos. And of course, the salute wouldn't be complete without the hip thrust at the end, which caught Erin completely by surprise. She gamely did it, to which Short replied, "That's one good thrust, and I'm sure you get that all the time."
From there, they moved over to the Fun Food Friday set where Chef Kelsey Knouse from Wolfgang Puck Bistro tried to prepare his Shrimp Louie dish.
Short's attention span was just that, short. He began stealing the garnish and coming up with alternatives to the salad, such as Spam Louie, because of his allergy to shellfish.
A stint on the anchor desk with Erin and meteorologist Andy Wallace followed, before the three made their way back to the kitchen for a taste of the salad.
And as he warned Erin earlier about his allergy, Short had a "reaction" after taking a bite of the shrimp.
