TULSA - A house fire in south Tulsa kept firefighters busy for hours Wednesday morning.

The large home, they say, has quite a bit of damage. As always, it will take a while to complete the full report, but early signs are pointing toward an electrical fire that may have started in the garage.

The call went out a little before 7 Wednesday morning. Fire officials say the homeowners heard a loud pop that sounded like it came from the attic area of the garage.

They told firefighters that lights started flickering and fans started going off in the home.

It took firefighters from nine trucks to put the flames out. Some had to get checked out by paramedics because of the extent of the work they did to put out the flames.

"There was heavy smoke and fire involvement in the west end of the attic and garage area of the house. When they went in to make an interior fire attack, when they pulled in the ceiling, they realized there was heavy heavy fire involvement in the attic extending down toward the east and the south end of the house. They made a pretty good fire stop, but there is significant damage from the wood frame structure," said Chief Bill French, with the Tulsa Fire Department.

Firefighters looked for hot spots in the large ranch style home, and that means breaking away part of the roof and spraying down areas that could catch fire again.

Officials say the damage is extensive, about 30% of the home is destroyed. The homeowners and their dog made it out ok without injury.
