TULSA - There are thousands more Oklahomans in need of food. That's why leaders at the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma are getting a jump start on Hunger Action Month.
It begins in September. Leaders are finishing up a fall project that will put 86,000 boxes of food in the hands of families in need. Each box weighs 30 pounds.
Oklahoma ranks fourth in the nation for hunger according to local food bank officials. That's up from 8th in the nation last year. All the more reason, leaders say, volunteers are needed.

"Last year, 7,100 different individuals helped the food bank do our job. We could not distribute 13.5-million pounds of food with just the staff employees. It takes all of those people to make that happen," said Carol Foley, Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma Spokesperson.

In September, organizers will promote "30 Ways in 30 days," to help fight hunger.
