OKMULGEE, Okla. - Police are trying to identify human remains located during the search for the body of a missing Okmulgee woman.
Ashley Taylor last spoke to her family in mid-July when she said she was eloping with her boyfriend, Kevin Sweat. Ashley said she would return in two weeks, but that day came and went.
On Wednesday, Aug. 3 Sweat was arrested for her murder.
Investigators interviewed Sweat after Taylor was reported missing. He said they argued while driving south on US Highway 75 and that she got out of the car near Schulter.
While investigating Taylor's disappearance, detectives said Sweat's story began to unravel.
Sweat was booked into the Oklmulgee County Jail on a complaint of first degree murder.
Okmulgee police say he admitted that Taylor's death was his fault, but so far her body has not been found.
Sweat is no longer cooperating with investigators and has not disclosed where he left Taylor's body.
During the search for Taylor, investigators discovered human remains. Forensic testing is being conducted to make an identification because police were unable to identify the remains.
They have not released the location or condition of the remains when found.
