TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- Republican congressional candidate Markwayne Mullin remains in a Tulsa hospital in good condition with a torn esophagus.

Mullin's campaign manager Tim Ross said Tuesday that Mullin is feeling better but still is unable to eat and drink and is being fed intravenously.

Ross said Mullin was having dinner Saturday night with his wife in Muskogee when he began having trouble swallowing and breathing. He was taken to St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, where he is expected to remain until Friday.

Ross says Mullin is not expected to undergo surgery and that doctors are keeping him hospitalized as a precaution.

Mullin defeated three-term state Rep. George Faught in the August GOP primary runoff. He faces Democrat Rob Wallace in November in the race to succeed retiring U.S. Rep. Dan Boren.
