Gas prices rise in Tulsa, Oklahoma and across the US; AAA cites Algeria violence

TULSA - After a year in which Tulsans pumped the cheapest gas in the nation, the city's fuel prices have risen considerably.

According to Gasbuddy.com, 26 cities have surpassed Tulsa in the race for this year's title. The site puts Tulsa's gas average at $3.21, up from $2.90 one month ago.

The state hasn't fared much better, falling 10 spots since New Years, and has risen 14 cents in one week.

So what gives?

The American Automobile Association says one of the reasons for the increase is an issue with localized refineries.

Another, AAA says, is the recent violence in Algeria, which has caused a national uptick in fuel prices.

Nationally, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is $3.36.
