TULSA - More than 700 people came together Saturday to raise awareness and money for pancreatic cancer research.
They did so by participating in the first annual PurpleStride , a 5K run or 1-mile walk on Turkey Mountain.
2NEWS took part in the festivities -- anchor Russ McCaskey emceed and chief meteorologist Dan Threlkeld ran the 5K.
PurpleStride hopes to double the 5-year survivor rate of those with pancreatic cancer with its contributions. The survival rate is currently around six percent, and has not changed in more than 40 years.
Organizers are already planning for next year's event.
