TULSA - National Transportation and Safety Board officials are now investigating the scene of a fatal airplane crash that happened near Mohawk Park late Saturday night.
A twin engine Cessna went down in the woods near Mohawk Park just after 10 p.m.
Those killed in the crash were identified by officials as 51-year-old pilot Chase Bales and two passengers, 37-year-old Damian Riddoch and 41-year-old Mats Malmberg.
The three men, executives with high-end off-road motorcycle maker US Highland Inc. in Glenpool, were returning from a business trip to Detroit.
Assistant Fire Chief Steve Gage said that due to the location of the crash, emergency crews had to cut away trees with chainsaws to access the wreckage.
EMSA was able to transport Malmberg to a Tulsa hospital in critical condition, but he later died. His fellow flight members were pronounced dead at the scene.
Tulsa Police Department Capt. Shawn King said the plane had made radio contact with Tulsa International Airport requesting to divert its landing. It was originally scheduled to land at Jones Riverside Airport.
Shortly before the crash, King said the men advised TIA the plane was low on fuel. No other contact was made.
NTSB has begun documenting the scene, which officials say will take several days. They also have requested air traffic communications and data and expect to have a preliminary report out in 10 days.
