WASHINGTON - The Federal Trade Commission warns people thinking about donating money to help victims of the Boston bombings to do some homework before giving.
If you are solicited, make sure to get the the name of the charity and the percentage that goes directly to the cause. Verify that the charity has authorized the solicitation, and do not provide any credit card or bank information until you have reviewed all the details.
Commission officials say to get a receipt and pay by check or credit card. Make the check out to the charity, not the solicitor.
