TULSA - Police are investigating a deadly crash in South Tulsa.

What ended up with a car slamming into the One Eton Square Apartements near 61st and Memorial began as a police chase about eight blocks away.

Around 11 p.m. Wednesday, police say the driver of a red Mustang Cobra was facing north at the stoplight near 68th and Memorial. The officers' patrol car was at the intersection facing south.

The driver of the Mustang revved his engine and took off, and police quickly followed.

The driver lost control near 61st Street, hit a berm and went airborne for about 90 feet. The car was at least 25 feet off the ground. It slammed into the side of an aparment at One Eton Square.

The man died on impact. Witnesses told police the driver was traveling more than 100 miles-per-hour.

Capt. Brett Bailey of the Tulsa Police Department said the woman in the apartment will be okay, "It did break through one of the walls of the building, the occupant of the building was asleep in bed, the only injury she sustained when the wall collapsed was that she was injured on one of her hands."

Police are still trying to determine why the driver hit the gas and drove away from police in the first place.

Investigators are also working to determine just how stable the building is after the crash.

Police beilieve alcohol played a role.
