County health departments now offering flu vaccinations

TULSA - County health departments across Oklahoma start offering flu vaccinations Monday.
    
Health officials want to remind residents if they received a flu shot last year it won't protect them this year.

A new vaccine should be given every year.
    
In most cases, the shot will cost $25 for those with insurance.
    
However, shots are free for children who qualify for the VFC (Vaccines for Children) program, Medicare Part B Non-HM, individuals whose household income is at or below 185 percent of the federal poverty guideline and who do not have insurance, individuals with Community Care insurance plans and Medicaid/SoonerCare recipients.

Outside of Tulsa County, anyone 65 or older can get a shot for free as can persons enrolled in HealthChoice and  the Oklahoma Public Employees Helath and Welfare insurance plans.

Individuals with Medicaid, SoonerCare, Medicare or Community Care insurance should bring a copy of their insurance card and photo ID to avoid the out-of-pocket expense for a flu shot.
