CATOOSA, Okla. - The Cherokee Nation is planning a ceremony Tuesday to recognize hundreds of volunteer firefighters.
The tribe wants to honor those who risked their lives battling wildfires last month.
They'll contribute $455,000 to the 127 volunteer fire departments in the tribe's jurisdiction.
Two departments are being named department of the year and three people are being named firefighter of the year.
The ceremony is at the Hard Rock Casino and Hotel at 6:30 p.m.
