FORT GIBSON, Okla. - A Tulsa man was arrested Saturday after he drove under the influence during a rollover which killed his 5-year-old son, Fort Gibson police said.
Cody Hamilton Welch, 33, was driving a 2004 Ford F-150 pickup near West Poplar Street and South Scott Street when he ran off the right side of the road, rolled several times and hit a tree, Lt. Brandon Combs said.
His son, 5, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected, Combs said.
The boy was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa but died due to his injuries Saturday night.
Welch was booked into the Muskogee County jail on complaints of DUI involving serious bodily injury, possession of marijuana and manslaughter. He also has an outstanding felony warrant in Tulsa County.
No bond has been set.
Welch is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
