The mayor of Bixby is hoping for more street widening.

Mayor Ray Bowen wrote a letter to the citizens calling on them to call on the Oklahoma Department of Transportation for more street widening.
ODOT widened Memorial, also known as State Highway 64, from the Creek Turnpike to 111th street.
Mayor Bowen would like to see it go to 151st street.
He says Bixby is the 2nd fastest growing city in the state.

"When you are the 20th largest city in Oklahoma, and as heavily traveled as Memorial Drive is, if we wait five years, I just think it is going to be a disaster," said Mayor Ray Bowen.

ODOT leaders say they are dealing with a $12-million back log in critical road and bridge projects, and the requests from Bixby are not part of the 8 year plan.
ODOT has had several public forums seeking input from residents. They are still taking public comments online.
