TULSA - A new airline is now flying in and out of Tulsa. The first Allegiant airline flight took off from Tulsa International Airport Friday.
The discounted airline will fly to Orlando-Sanford International Airport twice a week.
Passengers say they're excited about having more options for direct flights.
"It's convenient. I think it's lower cost and we can get there quickly. It's a lot less time traveling. A lot more having fun and just enjoying ourselves," Tulsa flyer Breck Buchanan said.
Tulsa is one of nine new cities benefiting from the new direct service to Florida. An airport spokesman says Florida is one of the top 10 destinations for travelers leaving the airport.
"The Orlando area is an incredible vacation destination and we are pleased that our community will have access to low-cost travel services that Allegiant offers," Tulsa International airport director Jeff Mulder said Friday.
Tulsa travelers say they like the idea of not having to make connections in other cities.
"Not having to stop and unload and having a huge layover or a really short layover and you have to rush, having that hassle-free is really a perk for me, " Tulsa flyer Kristen Simpson said.
A spokesman for the Tulsa Regional Chamber says adding non-stop flights will help to recruit businesses.
"We realize the importance for the leisure traveler as well as the business traveler a like adding more direct flights. It really impacts our economy on a positive direction," Senior Vice President of Economic Development Justin Mclaughlin said.
Round trip fares as low as $100, but Allegiant does charge for booking online and checking luggage.
