TULSA - Tulsa and Oklahoma City are getting new nonstop flights with the expansion of Allegiant Air.
The airline announced Tuesday new nonstop jet service from 10 communities to Orlando-Sanford International Airport. Service from Tulsa begins Oct. 25 and Oklahoma City Nov. 14.
"We are pleased to bring more convenient, low-cost vacation options to more communities," Andrew C. Levy, Allegiant Travel Company President, said. "Allegiant is dedicated to making vacations more affordable for more people, offering our customers the lowest possible base fare and nonstop service to the most popular vacation destinations."
The new flights mark 99 cities in the U.S. served by the Las Vegas-based airline, which is known for focusing on low-cost nonstop flights.
The company is offering a special travel deal as part of the new service -- round trip tickets for $99.
The official announcement took place at Tulsa International Airport Tuesday morning and it was clear Tulsa officials are looking to improve travel, starting with easier routes.
"The thing we hear time in and time out is we need more direct flights," said Mike Neal, Tulsa Regional Chamber president. "So this direct flight to Orlando will be extremely helpful. Hopefully, as I said, more direct flights will follow."
TIA officials say they worked months to secure the new flight as Orlando was chosen as a top 10 destination for Tulsans, even without a direct flight option.
The new routes will land twice a week.
