PRYOR, Okla. - A trooper involved in the Mayes County shooting that left a man dead has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
Authorities say trooper Shawn Cummings, a 7-year veteran of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, was a person involved in the multi-agency, police involved shooting.
Officials say 30-year-old Dustin Shirrel was shot and killed after a police chase in Pryor, Okla.
According to officers, Shirrel was shot after he waved his gun towards officers.
He died at the scene from his injuries.
The Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation is looking into the case.
Once their investigation is complete, they will turn their report over to the Mayes County District Attorney, who will determine whether the shooting was justified.
