TULSA - It's one of only 100 laboratories of it's kind in the entire world. A place where inventors, entrepreneurs and even you can make the next talked-about invention.
The 3,600 square foot Fabrication Laboratory, otherwise known as Fab Lab, is Matt Norris' brain child. It's an idea that has taken three years to make happen.
Norris says, "It's a place where you can walk in with and walk out with something in your hand. Where you can literally make almost anything."
Science, technology and math meet at the lab and mix with your imagination.
"You could theoretically build your next smartphone right here," says Norris.
They have an electronics space, wood and laser cutters, along with a 3-D printer to build prototypes. One guy actually makes guitars out of a machine that cuts wood, plastic and aluminum.
Norris says, "This is an opportunity for schools and students to have access to resources that once upon a time they had in school, but they don't have anymore." Norris hopes the lab will improve workforce Oklahoma.
The once crazy now impressive dream is funded by the Hardesty family and 16 other sponsors. It's open to the public for free, but only on certain days.
You can also buy a membership which gives you exclusive access.
The Fab Lab is located near 7th and South Lewis Avenue. For more information visit fablabtulsa.com.
