BROKEN ARROW, Okla. - How hot has it been?
Hot enough to melt a mailbox post, that's how hot!
Our Facebook fan Donna Bailey shared this photo with us Thursday night.
She said the post looks like it's made of plastic or vinyl, and the mailbox is metal, probably aluminum. It's in the Vandever Acres neighborhood near 101st and Aspen.
We shared the photo on our Facebook page and it got immediate response - mostly, " Is this real?"
So we went to the 2 Works for You Weather Center to find out.
Meteorologist George Flickinger says it looks real to him.
The post is a plastic material supporting a metal box. With the extreme temperatures we've had, George says it is very possible the heat started to melt the post and with the metal mailbox weighing down on it the post finally gave out.
All we can say is "WOW!"
If you didn't know about it, we have a weather pictures contest going on right now. Go to www.kjrh.com/contests for more information on how to enter and what the prize is.
