OSAGE COUNTY, Okla. - A 70-year-old man died in a home fire in rural Osage County Saturday afternoon, Osage County Chief Deputy Sheriff Charlie Cartwright said.

Three volunteer fire departments responded to the home north of the state line near Pawhuska and found the home fully involved.

The victim, who had a heart condition, told his wife, 66, to go outside and turn off the electrical breaker because there was a fire, Cartwright said.

Cartwright said when the woman tried to go back in to get her husband the smoke was too thick.

She was transported to a Bartlesville hospital and is expected to be okay.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office was called in to investigate the cause.

The man’s name has not been released because not all family members have been notified, Cartwright said.
