TULSA - Some Tulsa parents will make sure their children get a head start on education.

The Tulsa Public Schools system is opening up its second Early Childhood Education Center.

The east Tulsa building has been used by the district and the Community Action Project for years for other purposes. This year it will be able to teach 3 and 4 year olds the skills they need to enter kindergarten.

It is located at 10908 East 5th, located just off of Highway 169. Enrollment is underway now. The site is paid for with a combination of bond money, stimulus funds, and private funds.

"I am sure that the kids that don't get to go to pre-garden are going to feel it in kindergarten, you know they might be behind, and this is really going to get them where they need to be," said mom Kristina Herring.

It is estimated that each pre-kindergarten student costs the district about $4,000. That covers supplies, teacher salary, and facilities.
