You can melt away extra pounds with low carb diets, but a new study warns your health could be at risk.
Researchers at Harvard University found diets that emphasize animal sources of fat and protein are associated with higher mortality from all causes in both men and women. However, vegetable-based low carb diets were associated with lower mortality rates.
The study found while the idea behind the diets is similar, the differences that affect mortality lie in specific fatty acids, protein, fiber and other vitamins.
This study is published in the Annals of Internal Medicine.
