Tulsa Public Schools and Sodexo hosted the finals for the district-wide Future Chefs: Healthy Breakfast Challenge on Thursday, March 8 at Hale High School.
The Future Chefs challenge is an “Iron Chef”-style cooking competition. The program, part of Sodexo’s commitment to student well-being, teaches kids about making healthy eating choices by encouraging them to make their own fun and nutritious breakfasts.
Almost 200 7th- and 8th-grade students submitted healthy breakfast recipes including Tropical Fruit Bread, Maple Pumpkin Pie Yogurt Parfait, and the Ironman and Mushroom Omelet. Ten finalists will prepare their creations and present them to a panel of judges. Creations will be judged on originality, taste, presentation and use of healthy ingredients.
The judges panel features district administrators and local culinary experts, including the nationally-recognized child cook, 11-year-old Remmi Smith, Sodexo’s student ambassador for child nutrition.
TPS students join more than 1,000 other students at 247 Sodexo-served schools in 28 states in this fun and educational challenge.
Sodexo, a partner with First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move initiative to end childhood obesity, is committed to take measurable sustainable actions that ensure a brighter future in the areas of health and wellness, environmental stewardship and community development. Sodexo focuses on nutrition, achievement, environment, community and activity to promote student well-being and achievement.
