It was a battle to the finish at the box office, but in the end The Last Exorcism took the title of biggest movie of the weekend.
The Blair Witch type thriller took in $21.3 million dollars, eeking out a win by about $300,000 over the number two movie, Takers. However, while The Last Exorcism was playing on more theater screens, it actually earned less money per screen than Takers.
The Expendables took third with $9.5 million. That pushed its domestic total passed $82 million.
The Julia Roberts memoir based movie Eat, Pray, Love came in fourth with $7 million.
The Other Guys rounds out the top five, taking in $6.6 million. The Will Ferrell/Mark Wahlberg comedy is just $700,000 short of becoming the 17th movie to pass the $100 million mark in 2010.
