The cast of SMASH took a break from filming on Sunday (05Aug12) to remember silver screen legend MARILYN MONROE.

The hit TV series chronicles a fictional musical about the life of the Gentlemen Prefer Blondes star, who died after an overdose on 5 August, 1962.

Fifty years after her death, Smash stars Debra Messing, Megan Hilty and Christian Borle took a moment on the show's New York City set to remember the tragic actress.

The trio posed for photos holding a handmade sign which read 'Remembering Marilyn', while Messing took to Twitter.com to share the Monroe quote, "A career is wonderful thing, but you can't snuggle up to it on a cold night."

Hilty also re-tweeted the message, "Can we get RIP Marilyn Monroe trending worldwide? R.I.P to this beautiful icon of the 20th century! Never forgotten!"
