GLEE creator RYAN MURPHY was honored for his career achievements during a prizegiving in Los Angeles on Wednesday (27Feb13).

The TV boss was presented with the Paley Center for Media's inaugural PaleyFest Icon Award as PaleyFest 2013 gets underway.

Paley Center CEO Pat Mitchell hailed the writer as a "ground-breaker" and "change-maker" for his cult TV shows, which also include American Horror Story and The New Normal.

Murphy's personal idol, The Jeffersons writer Norman Lear, introduced the evening's question and answer event during the ceremony, which was attended by several Glee stars, including Lea Michele and Cory Monteith.

In a post on her Twitter.com page, Michele writes, "A beautiful night honouring the amazing (Ryan Murphy). So happy for him. What a joy to be in such an amazing room with such incredible people."
