Singer ROD STEWART craved intimacy while in rock group FACES after growing "tired" of bedding groupies.

The Maggie May hitmaker quickly lost count of the number of women he slept with in his 20s, and admits he longed to find true love rather than another one-night stand.

He tells Britain's Daily Mail, "Women literally threw themselves at the Faces 'cos we were cute and we were British. Me and (bandmate) Ronnie (Wood) just got tired of sex after a while, and we were only in our early 20s. Come to think of it, we always got more fun out of each other, me and Ronnie, than we did with the girls we were with...

"I got bored of not feeling affectionate towards girls. I wanted to be in love. I wanted something special. After a while it was sad, it was actually sad. I remember being at a hotel in Cannes and we were s**gging ourselves rotten and I said, 'This is f**king depressing.' And it was. You just felt empty. If you're 17 or 18 it's great fun, in your 20s it is fine, but the older you get... the more tragic it gets."
