Britain's QUEEN ELIZABETH II has cancelled a trip to Wales after falling ill with a stomach bug.

The 86-year-old royal has been laid low by a suspected bout of gastroenteritis, and made the rare move of pulling out of a public appearance as she recovers.

The monarch was due to appear in Swansea on Saturday (02Mar13) to honor soldiers following St. David's Day, which recognizes the country's patron saint, but she will instead be resting at her Windsor Castle residence in England.

A statement issued by a Buckingham Palace spokesperson on Friday (01Mar13) reads: "The Queen will no longer visit Swansea tomorrow as she is experiencing symptoms of gastroenteritis. She will be assessed in the coming days. Her majesty is currently spending the weekend in Windsor as usual."
